A popular fragrance company has unveiled a line of scents inspired by the galleries in the Metropolitan Museum of Art (Met), including the museum’s ancient Greek and Roman themed gallery.

The Met, which is located in New York City, has an extensive collection of art from ancient Greece and Rome among its collections. The gallery contains artifacts from Greece and Italy spanning a vast period between c. 4500 BC and 312 AD.

Now, Pura are offering a range of home fragrances in collaboration with the Met. There are six scents in total, each taking their inspirational cues from a gallery in the iconic museum.

The products

“As fans of Pura, we are excited to launch this unique home fragrance experience which adds a new dimension to art appreciation,” commented Josh Romm, the Met’s Head of Global Licensing and Partnerships.

“Art has the power to create connections and transport people across time and place, and this program provides a new and exciting opportunity for fans of the Met to experience art, history, and cultures of the world from the comfort of home,” Romm continued.

Each of the “smart fragrances” cost $85 and are inspired by the Greek and Roman, Egyptian, and Asian artworks and items on display at the Met. Alternatively, all six sets are available as a complete package for $249.

Every kit includes one of Pura’s exclusive scent dispensers that can be connected to wall sockets and managed through both Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. This enables users to change settings like the intensity of a fragrance through an app on their phones.

Ancient Greek-inspired fragrance

Of course, distilling the essence of the ancient Greek and Roman periods into a bottled home fragrance is quite an enigmatic task, but the perfumers at Pura think that they have achieved just that with their creation of the Met-inspired Terracotta Rose and Perfume Immortelle set.

According to its product page, “The earthy yet refreshing fragrance that is Terracotta Rose evokes the detailed work of Greek artisans through salt and mineral notes blended seamlessly with earthen terracotta. Soft pomarose creates floralcy and brightness as herbal undernotes bring beauty and balance to this tranquil scent.”

“Perfume Immortelle is an uplifting fragrance,” continues the product description. “The sweet immortelle flower, which retains its radiant yellow color even if it’s harvested and dried, represents the enduring quality of magnificent ancient marble statues. Gentle mahonial and olive flower lend a bright freshness, blending with a base of cypress and myrrh.”

Other scented offerings by Pura include homages to ancient Egypt and the Met’s Astor Chinese Garden Court.
